Innocence of children

So you don't want your daughter to grow up too fast? Then here is one simple tip.Don't dress them like teenagers when they are only 6!!! If there is nothing worse it is seeing a little girl dressed older than her years. Its not really the parents completely to blame though, its the high street .If they didn't mass produce these minit teen outfits than parents wouldn't buy them.How many times have you actually taken your six year old out shopping for clothes with you? be honest how often has it simply been a case of ordering something online or picking something up in your lunch hour? Yes a little bit of fashion is fun we are not for one minute suggesting all little girls should be wearing floor length dresses but crop tops and mini skirts at six? NO! So what I know ? As a mother to four daughters I speak form experience.My oldest two daughters I have watche dgropw up yoo fast.I was guilty of buying the latest fashion trend for them, shopping in the high street and going along with everyone else.Then my twin girls came along.I don't know why, maybe it was because I was older, more careful on my spending, or scared they would grow up too fast, but I didn't follow the same pattern. I chose dresses over jeans, pretty shoes over trainers, and if they wanted to come to the local supermarket in their princess dress or fairy costume then so be it! My lovely twins are now six years old. When I take then shopping for clothes they choose dresses everytime, the more girly the better.They have two older sisters, one nearly sixteen, so they are only too aware of the latest fashions yet they never chose these mini scaled versions.They are still girls through and through.They listen to music on the radio or at dance lessons, not on tv so they aren't exposed to what I would say are videos with women dressed in next to nothing! I sound like a prude now, but I simply learnt from my mistakes.Tv is limited , ccertain programmes are out of bounds even they are before the watershed when they are deemed suitable.They still believe in fairies, the tooth fairy and the easter bunny.They still believe every time a new born baby laughs for the first time a fairy is born, They believe when someone dies a star is born in the night time sky.I don't tell them what to wear , not at all, infact as I type one is wearing her snow white dress and os wearing her maid marian dress!.Self expression is important and they should be encouraged to do this in the way the dress also.They do still own fashionable clothing but fashionable for their age and still girly.A bit of sparkle, a bit of pink, a twirly skirt, sparkly shoes.All too soon they will be grown up and dressing in the latest teen fashions .Maybe I am trying to hold onto my babies that little bit longer. As long as they still believe in fairies, still want to wear their princess dresses, still think mammy is only 21, then they are still my little girls.All too often we want our kids to grow up too fast then when they do we wish they were little once again.Time flies too fast, so let them enjoy their childhood while they can. |
