Keep your Kids Fit

They has been a lot of coverage lately on childrens health, and rightly so. Government officials are concerened witht eh rising levels of obesity in our children and rightly so.Children are spending too much time in front of the tv, playing video games and watchign dvds.As parents we have to take some responsibility.Its all too easy to let your child sit there for hours while you do whatever is you want to do, like the housework for example.When I was a kid we were told you're playing out! that was that you played out and came back in when your mum had finished the housework.Of course times change and some don't feel it is safe anymore to let their children play out in the street.But exercise is important.Children who lead more active lifestyles have stronger muscles and bones, have leaner bodies as exercise will control body fat and are therefore less likely to become overweight. The chances of developing type 2 diabetes is also reduced.Your child will also sleep better,and be able to handle physical and emotional challenges better.
There are lots of activities out there you can encourage your child to take part in. Aerobic activities could include
Cycling, Basketball, Football, ice-skating, dancing, swimming,tennis,running, walking, cheer leading
For strength building there are lots of gymnastics classes held now up and down the country which will introduce them to push ups, stomach crunches, handstands etc.
Even walking is good exercise, so walk to the park instead of jumping in the car or taking the bus!
Combined with a healthy diet regular exerices will mean fit kids and fit kids usually lead to fit adults!
Dance is an excellant way to encourage your child to get fit.Apart from the obvious ohysical benefits it builds stamina,develops good posture, has that feel good factor and gives them a natural high. It also improves confidence and social skills.It gives them a sense of discipline as lessons are structured and at regular times and dance teachers do not tolerate unruliness in their classes.They develop friendships outside of their usual circle of friends also.
Dance has been recognised now by government officials as being just as important as sport in schools for our children.Dance is now being introduced into schools throughout the country, and not before time.
